Reinsurance is a type of Insurance that backs up insurers by handling all the Risk of the Insurance and paying a fraction of the Insurance. For example Insurance has to pay over 300.000 People but that'd be too much thats where it would create the Risk of Revenue-loss or Bankrupcy. Thats where the Reinsurance Company comes in and pays a part of it. But thats just a small part of the entire Reinsurance Business. In this article you'll learn all about the Reinsurance Industry and What is Reinsurance

The History of Reinsurance

The Origin of Reinsurance comes from Germany in Cologne (Köln) with the company “Kölnische Rückversicherungs-Gesellschaft” (Now Gen RE) in 1846 with the logic of “Wir halten den Rücken des Versicherers” (”We're holding the back of the insurer”) way before when in 1880 Carl von Thieme and Willhem von Fink founded Münchener Rückversicherungs-Gesellschaft AG (Munich Re) which ended up becoming the world's largest reinsurance company

They became popular during Natural Disasters, Great Depression and Currently very popular with The Wildfire in East Europe

The Reinsurance Business is all about:

While we Side Hustlers are creating businesses to be protected from going Bankrupt, Reducing Financial Risks and getting financially Independent. The Reinsurance Companies are doing just that except for Other Insurance Companies and making them less likely to get into a massive Risk. Reinsurance is all about Calculating Current and Future Risks and Risks of Insurances to minimize all possible Risks for example against Major Cyberattacks, Nature Disasters and War/Terror those are fields where the Insurance cannot cover all itself

How does Reinsurances get paid

Premium (Definition) = The insurance term of the amount of money you pay to the insurance

Unlike to Insurances where you pay monthly and where there's a max capped Premium, Reinsurances are paid usually quarterly or yearly with 10% of the Insurer's Income. That large Premium is understandable because Reinsurances are all about covering large amount of Risks & Costs

The Underwriters are the ones who are responsible for negotiating the risks that the Reinsurance Company is going to cover. They're are many types of Underwrites specialized in their own Risk Management fields.

For Investors

During the last years the Münchner Rückversicherungs-Gesellschaft AG (Munich Re) Stock skyrocketed from 369.00€ (09/2023) to 556.00€ (08/2025) and is currently very popular with Investors and with the Nature Disasters where i analyzed that everytime a nature disaster happens the stock goes up for a short time. But its never a good idea to invest all into one Reinsurance Company because they're the most popular one
